Tipey Joa Native Warriors

Our Mission:

Promote Health, Cultural Preservation, and Social Justice in Indigenous Communities.

Health Equity

We believe that health is the foundation of a thriving community. We address health inequities through strategic planning and culturally grounded programming, ensuring health is prioritized first — recognizing it as a major determinant of a prosperous life. Our work focuses on making healthcare more available, accessible, cost-effective, and high-quality for Indigenous communities. We take a holistic approach, supporting physical, mental, and spiritual wellness as essential pillars for individual and collective health.

Each year, we host our annual Health and Wellness Fair, bringing together both traditional healers and Western medical professionals to offer health assessments, insulin checks, diabetes prevention workshops, and healthy eating education. Beyond events, we assist community members facing medical and dental emergencies and connect individuals with resources for substance use treatment and recovery.

Cultural Preservation

Tipey Joa is deeply committed to preserving and revitalizing Kumeyaay culture. We offer Kumeyaay language courses at local community colleges and universities, and we provide hands-on education to the broader community in traditional foods, harvesting practices, plant medicines, basketry, pottery, clothing, and jewelry making.

Cultural preservation is not just about honoring the past, it is about empowering present and future generations with the knowledge, values, and practices that sustain identity, resilience, and community pride.

Social and Environmental Justice

Tipey Joa works to protect the fundamental rights of our communities, advocating for access to clean water, clean air, food sovereignty, environmental health, and public safety. We engage proactively in policy advocacy and respond swiftly when injustices occur.

In 2023, Tipey Joa led efforts to demand accountability when a U.S. corporate energy company disturbed Yuman human remains without consulting tribal communities. We continue working alongside local governments to ensure the proper return and respectful reburial of our ancestors.

Through advocacy, education, and grassroots action, Tipey Joa stands for social and economic justice, environmental stewardship, and Indigenous self-determination.
